Meet Jenny and Chonn:
Jenny, a Swedish woman, was born in 1979. She did her first trip to Cambodia in 2004. Jenny really loved the country and the people she met and she was sure about going back again!
Her younger brother Mattias worked as a volunteer at the countryside in Cambodia 2004. His dedication to the children he met during his stay made the family feel the same and they supported the small school he worked at! As Mattias tragically passed away in an accident 2005, the family decided to keep on working in the same mind he had done... In 2007 Jenny met Chonn, a Cambodian man born in 1983, and they became friends. At that time Chonn was a ”tuk tuk” driver in Siem Reap. He had dreams to get an education and also to give some help to the children back home in the village, Kouk Reusy, where he grew up. Jenny decided to help him by supporting his education as a guide. Jenny and Chonn stayed in contact and every time Jenny went to Cambodia they hung out! In 2010 a plan of running a school together was formed. And this is where the story begins of Mr. Mattias & Seng Nga English School . It is founded by Jenny Johansson, together with her family in Sweden, and also by Chonn, brother of Seng Nga, whom tragically passed away in 2011. The school was originally named after Jenny´s brother Mattias but since Seng’s passing his name was added. Now Chonn has taken the reigns. He has been working hard to keep this small English school located under his mother’s house running and the children love coming to school to learn English for free! There is around 100 children at Mr. Mattias & Seng Nga English School! Since September 2014 the school is located at Mouy Makara Primary School in Kouk Reusy! |
